Spontaneous and spindle poison-induced micronuclei and chromosome non-disjunction in cytokinesis-blocked lymphocytes from two age groups of women

K.Bakou, G.Stephanou, C.Adrianopoulos and N.A.Demopoulos Mutagenesis, 17, 233–239 (2002)

Please note that the authors have submitted an alteration to this paper as the frequencies of micronuclei containing X chromosomes and autosomes given in Figure 1Go were incorrect.

Figure 1. . Comparison of the involvement of chromosome X and autosomes in total micronucleation, spontaneously or as induced by Demecolcine and Vincristine, in two young women aged 23 and 22 years and two old women aged 47 and 49 years. The frequencies of MN containing chromosome X (MNX+) derive from Table III. The frequencies of MN containing autosomes, including chromosome 8, were estimated by subtracting MNX+ frequencies from the total C+MN frequencies (Table II). chrX, Autosomes, mean MN frequencies for chromosome X and autosomes respectively; The error bars represent the SEM.iDr H. Norppa is acknowledged for his comments on our paper

The 2nd paragraph on page 236, second column, (starting on line 22 and continuing to page 237, first column, line 2) should be replaced by the following paragraph:

Frequencies of MN containing autosomes, including chromosome 8, were estimated by subtracting the scored MNX+ frequencies (Table III) from the total C+MN frequencies (Table II) (Catalán et al., 1995, Catalán et al., 1998, Surallés, et al. 1996a). The results are presented in Figure 1Go. In comparison with the younger women, MN frequency in the older women was about 6-fold for chromosome X and about 11-fold for autosomes. The respective increases were about 4-fold and 1.3-fold in Demecolcine treated cultures and about 3-fold and 4-fold in Vincristine treated cultures. Considering total MN frequencies, chromosome X contributed to the age difference clearly more than autosomes. On the other hand, both test chemicals had a relatively stronger effect on the frequencies of MN containing autosomes than X chromosome, especially in the young donors.

Figure 1Go on page 237 should be replaced by the following new Figure 1Go.
